Justice delayed is Justice denied

Justice delayed is Justice denied,

A common phrase that echoes wide,

When justice lags and time goes by,

We wonder who the system’s for, and why.

Justice must be swift and fair,

Not a privilege for those with power to bear,

If a crime has been committed, it must be tried,

Without delay, without being denied.

For those who suffer and those who grieve,

Justice delayed only brings more grief,

It adds to the pain of the wronged,

A cycle of injustice, stretched out and prolonged.

A trial that drags on for years,

Leaves no one with reasons to cheer,

It saps the strength of the victim’s will,

A process that moves at a snail’s pace, standing still.

The evidence becomes stale, memories fade,

The guilty party may never be brought to shade,

The costs go up, and justice’s price,

Goes higher and higher as time goes by, causing more sacrifice.

The longer the wait, the more we doubt,

Our faith in the system, and what it’s about,

We must demand that justice moves fast,

And is always fair and meant to last.

Justice delayed is justice denied,

A mantra that is hard to abide,

We must all work to make the system right,

For those who seek justice, and for us, in its might.
